a little bit of our colton christmas

we started off the morning at 6:30 am. here is an early picture of the treeali (jess & trent's little girl) is just chilling with grandpababy sophia (annie & chad's baby girl) doing what she did best - sleepingshoes were the required gift of the year - everyone got at least one pair of new shoes for christmas. i came away with three pairs, weston with two, and even kate got a new pair. if you notice, it's her very first pair of dunks - just like daddy :)the rest of our christmas haul is packed in the car already so these are the only pictures we got - you can see where the priority is :) my parents went to denver to spend the holidays with the rest of my family. this ended up being a pretty sweet arrangement this year because we were able to spend all of our time and participate in all the activities that just one of our families was doing - instead of trying to split the little bit of time we get between both. hopefully the rest of our holiday seasons are as smooth! here's hoping new year's is just as fun :)

a family outing

we spent christmas eve afternoon doing what all close-knit families do ... shooting guns :) we went with weston's dad, chris, his sister, jessica, and brother -in-law, trent. we drove out to poverty flat, yes ... it really is called poverty flat. here is a shot of weston shooting a ruger .22 pistoland a .22 rifle
here i am shooting a .22 six shooter
chris, the master marksman, taught hunter's safety for 10 years, so we were all very safe and protected
here is a shot of trent and jessica
jess got too close to the scope on the 30-o6 and got hit in the forehead on the recoilhere is a picture of me shooting a .223 riflehere's the gangchris probably has more guns than weston has nikes ... any of you who know weston know what that's saying :)

my good friend janna

i met janna probably about 5 years ago. we met on a double date and i probably thought i'd never see this girl again, you know how that goes. about 2 months later, i met janna again on another double date! (with the same guys) we worked together for a couple of years and really got to know each other and became excellent friends. she is this totally chill, totally down to earth girl that is just REAL. it's funny because both of our relationships (the ones we had when we first met that summer) are long gone ... but our friendship is still intact! :) i never get to see janna anymore because she lives in DC and it just happens to be quite a long ways from utah. so, we try really hard to get together when she's in utah for the holidays or for a quick summer trip to visit her family. this time i think it had been a year and a half since we last saw each other. we had a great night of catching up and getting in the necessary girl talk over some dinner. love you janna! you're the best! :)

oh, and don't mind my fakest of fake smiles - i'm not sure what i was thinking :)

walking in a winter wonderland ...

Monday, December 10

when did this happen?

when did i become afraid of everything? i swear i have turned into this wimpy, vulnerable-feeling person all of the sudden. we got a beautiful storm this weekend and the snow fell all afternoon on saturday - of course i missed most of the falling flakes because i slept through a couple of hours of it. yes, for those of you who know me, i actually managed to take a nap! it was a HUGE victory. anyway, weston had a christmas party for the photography department for school (who has holiday parties with their schoolmates? WEIRD). anyway, he was working all day on saturday in orem and i knew it would be easier if i drove to orem instead of him having to come back to get me, turn around and drive probably twice as far to get to the party. did i meet him halfway? nope. i was too nervous! when did i become too afraid to drive in the snow? i could replace "drive in the snow" with many things since becoming mrs. weston colton. "kill spiders" would be one of them for sure. needless to say, my darling husband told me to stay put and he would come get me, braving the horrible traffic and roads i might add, and we would turn around and trek back to provo together. on a side note, what usually takes 15 minutes (getting from orem to american fork) took him over 45 minutes with the conditions - OUCH. then he got to do it all over again with me in tow :) what a perfect man! i love you weston :)

thanksgiving week

so we spent several days in monroe with my entire family for thanksgiving. space was a little tight with 13 adults in the house and 8 kids, so weston and i got the hide-a-bed. oh joy :) it was fun to spend time with all of the siblings and nieces and nephews that all live in denver. it seems like these kinds of visits get further and further apart. here is weston with my sister's little boy, andrew - he turns 8 in a couple of weeks.here i am with my nephew, alex jr., who turns 3 at the end of december.
my sisters threw me a fantastic baby shower while we were all together. here is a little bit of the food that was served. my 4 sisters, my mom, and 2 aunts were there and it was really perfect. we ate and ate and opened some gifts and then we just talked and talked for the next couple of hours :) thankfully the husbands had taken all the kids out so the women could just relax and enjoy the afternoon. when my dad walked in with a couple grandkids he said, "I feel like I've just been at McDonald's for the weekend." :)

2 of my cute neices, kali & megan, put on a show for us, complete with a formal invitation and favors upon entry :) they even had 3 acts with an intermission including displays to view :) too cute!

the cowgirl and her horse
the dance/gymnastics routine
it wouldn't be thanksgiving without a family turkey bowl! all the guys were out in the cold being manly men. my dad caught me completely by surprise with his commitment to this game. the first thing i saw when i walked into the backyard was my dad ROLLING across the grass with the ball in hand. my dad is in his 60s and he made a diving catch! crazy :)
here are most of the guys in action. that's my brother-in-law tom in the center trying to block. my 2 oldest nephews are in the back left of the shot, and weston is blocking andrew in the back right. men are funny.
it was a crazy week filled with a LOT of food and some games and puzzles. we caught up on everyone's news and funny stories, worked on a project or two, and i managed to fit 3 haircuts in there somehow :) it was a good week to be home.

baby quilt for reynolds

this is the quilt i made for baby reynolds. he is due a couple of weeks after kate.

Tuesday, November 20

so i gave in

but at least i held out until the week of thanksgiving this year! 2 years ago i had all of our christmas decor up BEFORE halloween. sometimes i just think 3 weeks in december is not enough time to enjoy the season. tonight when i was unpacking all of the ornaments i got so excited because i had forgotten about so many of them. last year i made (i guess enhanced is a better word) a lot of these ornaments - glitter and paint and such. i had forgotten so much of it and was so excited to see it all again ... my old friends :) last year i also made the tree skirt, embroidery and all ... it totally has its flaws, but i love it all the same. i'm just so excited for the winter and holiday season this year. we are going to spend thanksgiving with my family and christmas with weston's family. i have a feeling we'll be pretty busy between work, school, parties, and preparing that the time will just speed on by and i'll be taking the tree down and packing away my dear ornaments before i know it. next on the holiday list? christmas cards! hopefully i can get them done before we're halfway through december! :) put weston in charge of picture taking and you get a bunch :)

i need help

i've been coming to terms with realizing we need to eat at home way more often. my goal is to only eat out ONCE a week. that pretty much means we have to NOT eat out the other 5 nights we usually do. LITERALLY. it's that bad. i have made dinner 2 nights in a row now. it's a pretty big accomplishment although i'm not sure the food is all that great. because of thanksgiving and knowing we'll be out of town for most of next week, i don't want to go grocery shopping - so i'm trying to make meals out of the food in our pantry and freezer - YUMMY. so far, weston has liked what has been placed in front of him - hopefully he's not just being super nice ... hopefully he really does like it as he says :) if anyone has any, and i mean ANY suggestions or advice on how to cook for 2 or what kinds of staple foods to cook with or tasty and useful recipes, please pass any and all comments along. my mom was always at home - she only worked out of the home probably 6 months of my life. maybe that's why, but i've always really wanted to be a MOM and not have the career. i have this secret desire to be as good at everything as my mom is and i am constantly so surprised that it's so hard for me sometimes! :) but, i'm on this housewife kick as of late, apparently, because i spent over 10 hours cleaning on saturday (honestly - i was SOOO exhausted) and i'm trying really hard to make dinners again. maybe it's that nesting thing? :) kate should be here in under three months and i need to make sure i'm in all my mom-mode glory! :)

Monday, November 12

baby sophia's quilt

this is a quilt i made for weston's youngest sister - she's having a baby girl any day now. we are excited to meet sophia lou!

Thursday, November 8

how do i look?

okay, last night we were out for dinner (because i don't cook - i think we've sat down to a real dinner at our kitchen table about 3 times in 3.5 years - literally) and this lady comes up to me, puts her hand on my back (at least it wasn't on my belly) and asks, "when is your baby due?" first of all, she's the first person to do that - know that i'm pregnant and not just fat - and second of all, the first person to ask. i told her "the end of january, i've got about 12 weeks to go," and she looks surprised and says, "wow! you've still got a ways!" i wasn't quite sure how to take this! i did manage to shoot one back at the lady (after her surprised comment about how much time i had left) and asked her, "why, what are you trying to say?" and i laughed it off. now, i will be the first person to admit that since seeing this pregnant body come into shape, i have never been concerned about feeling fat or feeling like i should be doing any dieting (for like the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE!) and i have really enjoyed knowing my body is doing just what it should be doing. however, last night after this woman said "wow! you've still got a ways!" made me all of a sudden revert back to the fat girl insecure about the extra weight she can't shed. immediately i asked weston (quietly) "do i look huge?" and he said, "no, you look as pregnant as you are" or something matter of factly like that. after about a minute i shook off the feeling of being fat again and dismissed the whole thing. i guess it's just a rite of pregnant passage - i'm still waiting for the perfect stranger to come up, touch my belly, and ask when i'm due or what i'm having ... stay tuned :)

Wednesday, November 7

i'm starting to get it ...

i'm starting to get how my mom must have felt trying over and over to teach me how to sew. last night i went to my first official YW activity as the new secretary. it was a perfect night because i got to help the girls sew! they were making aprons for their moms for christmas. they were these adorable vintage aprons with even cuter vintage material, ribbon, and rick-rack. i think i'll have to try making one for myself :) anyway, after coaching for about 10 minutes, i had imagined flashbacks of how my own mom must have tried to teach me and muster all the patience she could to see it through - i'm sorry mom! :) the girl i was working with did a fantastic job but i had to laugh inside as she kept the sewing speed firmly in the slowest position (marked by a tortoise) the entire time. she also insisted on doing the locking and backstitching by hand (using the flywheel instead of the foot pedal) and counting her 8 stitches back and forth :) she was cute. i had a lot of fun with these girls and i'm so thankful to have the mother i have!

Tagged by Danae

Here's the rules:
A. Each player lists 6 facts/habits about themselves.
B. At the end of the post, the player then tags 6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog, for these rules.

I am so bad at spontaneous thinking!

1. I have a yellow ring around both of my pupils - Weston calls them my sunflower eyes :) How sweet :)

2. I'm starting to get TERRIFIED of becoming a mother - I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've changed a diaper in my life. I have no clue what I'm doing!

3. I won my school's spelling bee in 5th grade and got to go to the district finals - pretty exciting :)

4. I constantly had the biggest crushes on my brother's friends - almost every single one of them! And just look - I even married one of them :)

5. I HATE HATE HATE when people shake their water - it just freaks me out. I'm not sure why, but when someone shakes their water bottle, it just gives me the major gross-out chills

6. The sound of an alarm clock buzzer (not the kind that just kindly BEEPS but the kind that buzzes that irritating sound over and over) makes me almost have to vomit - I'm not kidding. If I hear that kind of buzzer alarm clock in the middle of the afternoon, it starts to make me literally sick and I have to plug my ears and run away! :) How embarrassing!

There you have it - 6 not so interesting facts about me. I am going to tag:
1-Kristi, 2-Shireen, 3-Kassie, 4-Stacy, 5-Weston, and 6-Margaret

weston: take 2

This an out-take from a shoot I did yesterday. I shot this after I was done with the real shoot. Adam is a baller...and a skater.

weston's homework

I had to find an advertisement in a magazine and then duplicate the ad to the most minute detail, from the lighting to the placement and angle, to the reflections on the product. This was a challenging assignment, and I didn't get it perfect. The one on the left is the original (the scan has the image on the back of the page showing through making it look dark). The one on the right is mine.

girl's night

okay, so it technically wasn't girls NIGHT - we met for lunch on saturday. and our girl's group is dwindling down to just three of us! the girls all met at wirthlinworldwide/harris interactive and we started out as a group of probably 7 or so. as one by one we each quit or moved, it has gotten harder to keep in touch. so saturday it was just me, michelle, and erin g. we dined at olive garden and had a good couple hours of catching up. our waiter was odd - in fact, that's what his nametag said - odd. whatever :) he was a character though - told us all about his days in the theater and he even did a dramatic reading for us of the three soups on the menu. i told the girls i felt like i was on a tour bus! the food was good and the conversation was great. stacy and jen, you'll have to join us next time and shireen, if you're ever in town, we have to do it again :) emily will be home from her mission in march, so we'll have to get together with her, for sure. we had a picture taken by odd, but apparently he didn't know how to work a camera very well as we were completely out of focus and super blurry - not really worth posting :) anyway, it was a great afternoon and it always makes me realize how lucky i am to have such good friends! :) love all you girls!

WESTON'S IPOD SHUFFLE

This is going to be interesting...I am going to put my iPod on shuffle and post the first ten songs that come up. By interesting I could mean embarrassing. Here goes...

1-Justice - D.A.N.C.E. (BBC Rip)
Everyone's favorite French duo. This should come as no surprise. I have like 10 remixes of this song. This is not the best of them.

2-Garden - Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
I don't know much about this band. I just got this from a blog. Good mellow indie rock.

3-Blood Red Shoes - It's Getting Boring by the Sea (Blamma Red Shoes Mix)
Another blog song. I know nothing about the band and barely recognize the song.

4-New Young Pony Club - Ice Cream
Great song by a great band. This is the original (I have a number of remixes of this song as well). The UK is bulging with talent.

5-Chromeo - You're So Gansta (Album Version)
Chromeo is rad. This from their first album. If you watched MTV a couple weeks back, you couldn't have missed the blatant marketing and promotion of their new album. They are in some sort of cahoots with MTV. The new album is good, nonetheless.

6-Brice Lee - Spam (YUKSEK Remix)
I downloaded this with a compilation. I don't know a thing about the band. Good indie electro.

7-Midnight Juggernauts - From the Deep
This is one of the sickest albums to come out this year. These guys are from Australia and I have been waiting for over a year for a full length to drop. If you like dance/electro/indie in the likes of Cut Copy, you must check out the new album DYSTOPIA.

8-DJ Paul V - Justice Megamix
This guy made a 30 minute mix of a bunch of Justice songs. It's coming straight out of the club. (Erin doesn't even know who I am anymore, at least that is what she keeps telling me).

9-Muscles - Ice Cream
Another song called ICE CREAM...by another dance friendly band called Muscles. These guys are good. This song reminds me a lot of LCD Soundsystem...actually the whole album does.

10-Kings of Leon - Waste of Time
I was wondering if any rock songs were going to pop up on this. I do still listen to a lot of rock music...however there is a ton of dance/electro/mash up/remix stuff.

There you have it. I want to do this again.

nursery additions

here are a couple of the projects i've worked on lately. i'm exhausted :) first is the K - i needed something for the window, and decided this would be a good fit. here is the finished product! the crib is finally painted, the bumpers and crib skirt have been made (thank you very much) and it's all in place and looks pretty cute :)

oh! one more thing!

last night was momentous! weston felt kate kick! she has been moving around a LOT lately - it's crazy how active she is (yes, i realize probably just the same as any other baby but let me brag:) haha) he has been spending the last few weeks with his hand or cheek on my belly and will wait and wait for her to kick him, but to no avail. last night we were watching tv and i was looking down to see if i could actually see my belly move or wiggle and she was totally making it rumble. he started watching for it and got bored, so he put his hand on and after a few seconds he said, was that her? it totally was :) it was so cool for him to finally feel her move. as the ones carrying the babies, we ladies get to feel them weeks sooner than the men - poor guys :) i think every little milestone like this makes it a little more real for him. yay!

erin's ipod - first ten on shuffle

here's how you play:

set your ipod to shuffle and then write down the first 10 songs that play - NO CHEATING to be MORE cool or LESS embarrassing! a good commentary is always appreciated :)

1 - Forgive & Forget, Get Up Kids
i love GUK, just love them. they're one of those bands i hardly ever listen to anymore but everytime i do, the songs just take me back to those crazy years. i love the way music just transforms the moment
2 - Damn Girl, Justin Timberlake
courtesy of weston - yes, he's a JT fan, who knew. i like a few songs, but this one does not strike my fancy at all ...
3 - California, Phantom Planet
i LOVE LOVE LOVE the o.c. and this is the theme song so again, this song just takes me right back to the pilot episode and watching sweet ryan atwood try to be so tough and ride his little bmx around chino looking for a place to crash :) then super cool sandy cohen drives up and rescues the kid :) i just love it! funny story, last time we were in california this summer, we were driving north on the 101 into laguna beach and i had control of the music so we were listening to my uber-o.c. mix and we had the windows down. embarrassingly enough, this song comes on at a pretty high volume and we both jumped for the ipod to change the song because we didn't want people thinking we were just those annoying tourists who were IN california and blasting this california song at full volume with our windows down on coast highway :)
4 - Little Drummer Boy, Bright Eyes
so this is a christmas song :) i love bright eyes though, and it's another one that i never listen to - but when i do it just reminds me of weston and the few years after he got home from his mission, love that. back to the christmas theme though, i will completely admit that, even though it is mid-october, for the last 4 days i have been willing myself not to play my christmas playlist - "just wait until at LEAST november starts!" haha
5 - Queen of Apology, The Sounds
so i really like this song and the sounds. i'm so dumb and stubborn about some things, music being one of them. if weston gets some new album or new band, he'll say "you'll love this" immediately i shut off all options to liking the cd :) SO DUMB! so now he just tells me, "you're going to HATE this, but I like it" anyway, this is how it went for me and the sounds. i couldn't take all the hype :) and it was one of those things that i will deny forever but secretly think it's the coolest. i did that with the movie 300 ... acted COMPLETELY bored and disgusted with that movie, but inside i was thinking it was the coolest :) it only took me about 6 months to finally admit that to weston, haha :)
6 - I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor, Arctic Monkeys
weston loads up my ipod with new stuff he finds and some of it i listen to and some of it i don't even know it's there, i'll be honest :) the good thing about his collection is i can always find something "beaty" to walk to, and it gives me ammunition for more teasing :) haha
7 - From Point A to Point B, Modest Mouse
this is a band that my little brother has been trying to get me into for years. i used to think MM was too random and all over the place and you couldn't really follow their music, but then one day it just grew on me. again, i'm thinking it has to do with the "taking you back" thing. i think i equate a lot of emotion with music! :)
8 - Bad Sects, Cursive
cursive is cool - what else can you say. this is another band that took me some time to come around on, mostly while weston was on his mission. honestly, i think i gave it more of a chance because i was missing him and it reminded me of him :) but they keep coming out with good stuff and a side project, the good life, is super good.
9 - The Park, Feist
i am in love with feist. i just love her. she's definitely one of my favorite artists and i could listen to her all the time. it's always annoying when you hear one of your favorites on commercials, though. oh well, more success to the artist, i guess. she's just got a distinct sound and smooth vocals - just love her!
10 - The Spoils of the Spoiled, The New Amsterdams
another great one! i love this band, they're awesome. funny - you never know what you'll get on shuffle - a lot of my old favorites popped up this morning. i just love this band for their almost acousticness and chill themes. excellent song.

what's your first ten??? inquiring minds want to know!

Tuesday, October 16

24 week appointment

really it's 25 weeks but who's counting besides weston and me :) i went and got checked out this afternoon and everything looks great. kate's heartbeat was a healthy 150 bpm and my blood pressure was in good shape, as well. hey, when that scale rises each time, i have to be able to feel good about SOMETHING - hence the blood pressure plug :) i've also reached the milestone known as the gestational diabetes test! oh boy am i excited to down that drink everyone says is so disgusting. hopefully it will come back negative and i won't have a thing to worry about. i've been working on her crib and bedding so hopefully i'll have some cute pictures to post soon. oh, and my to-do list yesterday? yeah, i kind of didn't do ANYTHING on it except the fun stuff :) i got fabric for those quilts! oh and let's be honest, i did have that ice cream. but i have a REALLY good excuse - it helps so much with my acid reflux, so i feel better about it :) so tonight when i get home from work, laundry and dishes come before any 90210 reruns :) then we'll see about that dust ruffle ...

more pictures of kate

well, as much as i love to get pictures of this little girl, she gave us quite a scare today. i started spotting this afternoon and immediately called the clinic to leave my "urgent" message. after waiting for maybe 5 minutes, i just decided to leave work and go see one of the on-duty nurses. she talked with me for a couple minutes and sent me over to the hospital where i spent the next 2 1/2 hours. after doppler, 2 ultrasounds, and some blood work, they sent me home and said she measured perfectly and everything looked really good. i know this can happen to anyone at anytime in pregnancy, but man is it terrifying. coincidentally and luckily enough, my parents were in town and were able to be with me until weston arrived from work and then stayed to make sure we were all okay. so even though i'd rather not have the pictures (since i was in terror-mode all afternoon) she's still a cutie :)

here's another profile shot of herand here's a really cute one of her feet

kate's quilt

so i think i'm totally nesting. i have already made her crib quilt. but once i saw this material i was just in love with it and had to get it. and for anyone who knows me, you know that once i have the material, i have to start making it :) i'm sure this girl will teach me some patience!

http://westoncoltonphoto.blogspot.com/

I have started a blog for school and other things photographic. I will be posting some of my own work and some work from other people that I like. Give it a looksy if you like. You can find it here: http://westoncoltonphoto.blogspot.com/
Or simply click the link in the friends links. Here is one new photo. I shot this on a 4x5 view camera with film. I'm talking about the old school accordion style pull the cloth over your head style you see in movies of the old West. It is not easy to shoot action with these. To add to the difficulty, the image I see on the back of he camera is upside down and backwards.

the necessary evil that is a car

So cars suck. Both of our cars are due for registration in September - that stinks. This year both cars required a safety inspection so Weston took them both in on the 26th. Wouldn't you know it, they both failed. We kind of feel like we get nailed on the dumbest safety regulations - last year Weston had to peel off the tint in his car because it was deemed too dark ... whatever. This year, my car didn't pass because I need a new windshield, which "somehow" passed during the last inspection (it's been cracked for over 2 years). My car also failed because the horn wasn't loud enough. LAME. Weston's car had legitimate issues that needed to be resolved. His rear brakes had to get fixed and he has a leak in his power steering - we'll find out in the morning if that's all fixed and how much it will set us back. We're crossing our fingers that the power steering fix is the cheaper of 2 options (not the option that will cost $600+). Since my car needed a new horn, we picked one up for $15 over the weekend and Weston installed it tonight. If any of you know Weston, he will be the first one to say he's not "handy." I have come to realize he is a lot more of a handyman than he gives himself credit for. He has fixed/jerry-rigged (semantics) plenty of things around our home. For proof, I took pictures of him being a mechanic :)And here's a picture of the beautiful new horn

Yorkies

These are my mom's new Yorkie pups. There is a boy and a girl. The girl is extremely tiny. They are 8 weeks old and she is putting them up for sale this week if anyone is interested.

birthday weekend

This last weekend was packed. Annie (Weston's younger sister) had a baby shower in Monroe on the 22nd (her birthday). I went with Annie & Chad Friday night to Monroe. Saturday, I spent the morning with my mom shopping for more baby goods. Here are some of the things we bought plus a few gifts. That afternoon we went to Annie's shower. She got a lot of really cute things for baby Sophia (who is due in mid-November). Weston drove down after work that evening and we went out for the annual combined birthday dinner with Weston's family to celebrate Annie's and my birthday. I got this amazing stroller (thanks parents!)
and my very own set of golf clubs! For girls! :) I'm super excited to get out and use them - even if I make a fool out of myself ... what can you do?
And, because many have asked ... here I am at 5 1/2 months pregnant. Crazy!

"already spoiled"

That's what Weston said after we went on our first shopping excursion for Kate. Here are the goods.

the results are in ...

So there is NOTHING between those legs (look for the arrow) - it's a girl :) Despite Weston's attempts, we did not manage to avoid "girl season" - but we're both very excited. So we'd like to introduce you all to Kate Colton.

Here is a picture of her cute foot.
And, last but not least, the cutest profile I've ever seen :) I just love her adorable button nose and cute lips - now we just have to wait for the next 5 months to see what she really looks like.
